Nowadays we can observe the diminishing need for religion. The phenomenon can particularly be observed among young people who have almost completely given up attending masses and seem to pay little attention to religion questions.
The first reason for this situation is that the modern civilisation offers many new attractions that absorb peoples attention. The society following new trends, including different life styles or some trendy and fashionable theories on what is the best way of living, forget about real, true values. People overwhelmed with the newest technology, which has almost become a goddess " of the modern times, very often don't feel the need to fill their lives with anything else. The religion seems to them an abstraction, something that exists but they personally don't care about it. Nowadays people find their fulfilment in different things than faith.
Another reason for the discussed problem can be the family education. Very often parents dont remember to give their children proper indications. Instead they neglect all the religion questions and leave their children a free choice. Young people very often choose all the things mentioned above. These are all kinds of new "gods" of modern civilisation. The religion is too difficult , it demands devotion, sacrificing and reflection . People dont find it attractive any more. This is one of signs of modern times, a sad sign. Society doesnt pay attention to moral values.
In conclusion I agree with the statement that the need for religion is diminishing in our time. As we can see there is a number of reasons for this situation. is it possible to change it? Certainly it is but first we would have to reflect on our personal attitudes towards moral questions.
